Sunday September 16 Memphis

Today has been a rest day in Memphis so we were able to have a look around Memphis . Started off with a walk back to the middle of town and dropped into a place called Peabody’s hotel. They have some trained ducks which go through a routine every day at 11am and 5pm. They bring them down from the roof and they walk along a red carpet into a fountain pool in the middle of the bar area. Its become very much a tourist attraction but unfortunately we couldn’t get there. Some of the thers managed to so should be some pictures around. Headed to Mud Island River Complex where they have the story of the Mississippi River and its history and then onto a Bass Pro store which was like a full sized pyramid with accommodation and everything you could imagine to do with sport or the outdoors. Had full sized pools full of fish and a 100 m high elevator to take you to the top of it to walk out on the glass walkway and look over the city. Tried some alligator tacos while we were there – quite delicious.

In the afternoon, off to Graceland to check out Elvis’s place. Not that big and very interesting to see the decor and how it reflects the time it was done. Also had a look at his planes and the bathrooms in the plane covered in 24 carat gold.

Back to hotel to regroup and head out for tea as its Richie’s birthday .
