Thursday September 20 Amarillo Texas to Santa Fe New Mexico
Today was lots of flat nrown countryside for a start as we left Amarillo but there was a surprise just out of town. Half buried in a paddock are some Cadillacs. You can walk down to them and add your own artistry if you have a spray can. Wuite the tourist attraction. While we were on our way there the truck bringing our gear had a major rear brake issue. Russ crawled under and checked it out. Result was the truck had to hear back to Amarillo for repairs. Bikes headed off and back on another part of Route 66 to Adrian which is the mid point between Chicago and Santa Monica. It is the oldest continuously running cafe on the route.
Now onto New Mexico and a complete change of landscape and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Change in temperature as we headed into the hills and onto Santa Fe with all of the adobe buildings doting the landscape. It was Anne’s birthday so we just headed out for tea in our bike gear as our suitcases hadn’t arrived home. Margaritas were the drink of choice with Mexican food. Another great night for all.
We also had a chance to do some shopping so a few blankets were bought and maybe another T-shirt!
