Wednesday September 19 Moore Oklahoma to Amarillo Texas
Another big day from Moore to Amarillo where we started to do some of Route 66. Ironically this road is an old dual carriagway which at times was not very well maintained and the new interstate is only spitting distance away. They’re doing 75mph or we were bumping along at 40-55mph thinking we’re idiots. Stoped at Route 66 museum to look at some of the history and the obligatory T-shirt if you like.
Further on we stopped at Harley’s place. Harley is an institution. He is a character of Route 66 and eccentric is a good description. You get to tour his "house " - think of hoarder and then his " museum " of 66 memorabilia. Original stuff would be worth a fortune. Played his guitar and sang Route 66. We joined in with tambourines. Great fun.
Next stop was The Roost - a little out of the way diner run by a couple of retired school teachers. As always amazing food and bottomless cups of coffee/soft drink
Back on the interstate and more wind then onto Amarillo and a night out at the Texas
